The development of environmentally friendly, safe and affordable energy provision ranks among the great challenges of our time. The key concepts for the accompanying process of technical, economical and social transformation must inevitably be renewable energies, rational energy conversion and energy conservation.

In addition to the optimisation of existing technologies and a broad portfolio of novel technologies, the attainment of this goal is also reliant on complementary innovations in many other fields.

Rising to these challenges are the Oldenburg energy researchers, who have joined forces to form the ENERiO - Energy Research in Oldenburg - research consortium.

At the same time, ENERIO represents the local intersection of the Oldenburgian Energy research within the  Lower Saxonion Energy Research Center (Energie-Forschungszentrum Niedersachsen, EFZN). The EFZN  is composed of five intersections which are located at the universities TU Braunschweig,  TU Clausthal, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Leibniz Universität Hannover and the University of Oldenburg.

The purpose of ENERiO is not only to shape the safe and sustainable electricity supply systems of the future, but also to strengthen teaching and research in renewable energies for electricity generation in the Oldenburg region.
