The research location in Oldenburg is devoted to the subject "energy" with great versatility and sees it as a central future task, with roots dating back to more than 25 years ago when the "Energielabor" was built at the university campus.

Today, research and development of energy technology in Oldenburg has its pillars in science, engineering, information technology, meteorology, and economics. These application-oriented activities are located both in the university and in independent research institutes, such as ForWind, NEXT ENERGY and OFFIS.

The majority of Oldenburg's activities in energy research is technologically focused on next generation power systems, complemented by activities with an economical or educational focus.
